Real Pirates

(The Franklin, May 24 - November 2, 2008)
The Franklin is hosting the National Geographic Exhibition, "Real Pirates", which features a full-size replica of Whydah, a ship that sunk off the coast of Cape Cod more than 250 years ago, and the artifacts that went down with it! In a recovery operation led by underwater explorer Barry Clifford that spanned more than two decades, the treasure chests of jewelry, arsenals of weaponry and other artifacts on display in "Real Pirates" have helped shed light on a tumultuous period of American and world history. Experience the treasures and stories of the Whydah re-surface in "Real Pirates"!

Gee's Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt

(Philadelphia Museum of Art, September 16 - December 14, 2008)
This exhibition will feature quilts created by Gee's Bend, an African American community of 45 women spanning four generations. Witness the in-depth history of the community, contemporary and historical photographs and excerpts from interviews with the quilters.

New Year's Eve Gala and Mummers Fancy Brigade Finale

(December 31, 2008 - January 1, 2009)
Celebrate New Year’s Eve in style with dinner, dancing, live music and the fabulous fun of the Mummers. New Year’s Day begins with Philadelphia’s famous Mummer’s Parade, featuring thousands of costumed musicians and dancers and ends with an indoor finale designed especially for groups.

Cézanne and Beyond

(Philadelphia Museum of Art, Spring 2009)
The Philadelphia Museum of Art presents "Cézanne and Beyond," an exhibition featuring 40 paintings and 20 watercolors and drawings by Paul Cézanne. Cézanne's works will be displayed alongside creations by several artists for whom Cézanne has been a central inspiration including Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, Charles Demuth, Alberto Giacometti, Jasper Johns, and others. Special Group Tour Packages are available, including before-exhibit-hours tours.
