The city was recently named the No. 2 sports city in the nation by The Sporting News (Philadelphia was also ranked as the nation's No. 1 city for college basketball and pro hockey). In 2006 alone, Philadelphia hosted the NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championships, NCAA Men's Basketball 1st & 2nd Rounds, the Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Tournament, USA Gymnastics Tyson American Cup, the Army/Navy Game and many other exciting annual and special events.

In the coming months and years, Philadelphia will continue to host the finest in professional and amateur sports, including events like the 2007 NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championships, 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics, 2008 & 2009 Army/Navy Games, 2009 AAU Girls Basketball Championships, 2009 NCAA Men’s Basketball 1st & 2nd Rounds, 2011 NCAA Wrestling Championships and the 2013 U.S. Open (Golf).

Established in 1987, the Philadelphia Sports Congress (PSC), a division of the Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau, seeks to attract major sporting events and conventions to the Philadelphia community. Working with the area's professional teams, universities, facilities, and corporate community, PSC acts as a resource and facilitator for meeting and event planners. PSC also assists with site visits, sports media contacts and special event planning.
